Should I attend a two year community college and then transfer?

I know many highly successful people who have taken this route.

Understand that if Student A and B are planning to study Accounting.  If Student A goes to a four year university for all four years, and Student B goes two years to a community college and transfers to the same four year university as Student A, both students can end up with the exact same degree in the same amount of time.

I have developed a list of topics for you to ask your local community college if you are considering this option:

Scholarships
  • Some of these schools also give full tuition scholarships

How classes will transfer to the four year institution that you are interested in
  • Be sure to always talk with the four year institution about transfer details
  • Not doing your homework can defeat the cost saving advantage of this option

Availability of any "2+2" programs
  • Some community colleges pair up with local four year schools to provide bachelor degrees
  • These programs may even be taught on the campus of the community college
  • Sometimes the last two years of tuition may be discounted

What if you cannot find a program at your in district community college?
  • Can you attend a neighboring community college at in district rates, provided the program of interest is offered there?

Is there an honors program and or a Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society?
  • If so, what are the advantages?
  • I have found some students who were involved in honors programs to have greater opportunities for transfer scholarships

Is there a study abroad program available?
