continue your climb.....hang in there, you'RE halfway there!

Here are some things to consider for Junior year:

Continue to build academic skills and strategies

In October, consider taking the
PSAT/NMSQT® if your school offers it.
  • Students who score very high may become nationally recognized and earn more scholarships

Remain involved in your school.
  • If you haven't been involved, consider joining something in or out of school

Build rapport with your teachers.
  • Remember Junior year teachers are often the ones who may write letters of recommendation for your college application and/or scholarships

Schedule a family college discussion day to talk about family expectations for college.
Continue to take a challenging curriculum that the student will be successful in (A's or B's).
  • This does not mean automatically take the hardest classes that your school offers
  • You must consider your load outside of the classroom when choosing the right mix of classes
  • Your social/emotional well-being is not worth compromising just to take the most difficult classes that your school offers

Volunteer

Visit with college representatives
when/if they visit your school.

Make some formal visits of college campuses.
  • Set up a visit from the college's site
Keep up with your School Counselor.

Update your "4 year plan" of classes.

Consider taking part of test prep
  • Link to the testing page on this site for more information

Increase your research on colleges.

Talk to friends, family, and other adults about their careers.

By spring of this year, be sure to take at least one college entrance test.
  • Often times, students will take a test 2 or 3 times

Maintain your list of activities, volunteer hours, jobs, etc.  Plan to build on this each year.
